InfoAndina is the Latin American node of Mountain Forum, which is hosted at the International Potato Center (CIP) in Lima, Peru. InfoAndina is also the information network of the Consortium of Sustainable Development of the Andean Ecoregion (CONDESAN), also hosted by CIP since 1997. CONDESAN was established in 1992 to promote cooperation among NGOs, universities, international research institutions and private companies, working for the preservation of natural resources, agro-food chains, conservation of biodiversity, policy advocacy and facilitating exchange of information and communication throughout Latin America. Since 1997, InfoAndina has been managing and facilitating the activities of the Latin American network of Mountain Forum, with support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) as well as through the resources generated from its information services provided to third parties, including SDC and regional networks. InfoAndina's services are primarily in Spanish and reach out to a wide range of Spanish speaking audiences.

The primary aim of InfoAndina is to facilitate the flow and exchange of information for CONDESAN partners through electronic communications, virtual working groups, e-conferences and newsletters. Currently, InfoAndina's activities are focused on expanding the geographic and thematic balance of its services, establishing strategic alliances among regional networks in Latin American and support CONDESAN regional projects. InfoAndina was one of the active regional networks supporting the main celebrations in Latin America for the International Year of Freshwater in 2003, which included the Latin American Watershed Congress in Arequipa, Peru, and the e-conference for the Fresh Water Vision in the Americas.

Currently, there are 83 organisational members from 10 countries and 1709 individual members from 23 countries who are registered with InfoAndina.

Mr. Miguel Saravia, Executive Director of CONDESAN - InfoAndina's host institution - serves on the Board of Directors of Mountain Forum as the institutional representative of CONDESAN.

Mr. Robert Hofstede of Ecuador serves on the Board as the elected representative of Mountain Forum members from Latin America.
